Q

Is English required to work for Costco? Is any qualification required?

A

There is no special qualification required.It will be better if you have English skills. Business level English skills are required for management positions. We use English in the internal email correspondences.

Q

Generally speaking, foreign companies are known to lay off employee for the purposes of reorganization. Does this apply to Costco?

A

Since we came to Japan in 1998, Costco Japan has never dismissed any employees for the purposes of reorganization. Our focus is to provide a safe working environment for all employees so that they can stay for a long time and develop their careers. We offer a family atmosphere in which our employees thrive and succeed.

Is there an international transfer program to foreign countries/regions?

A

Currently, there is no official international transfer program. In the future, there would be a possibility to implement the program to our international partners.

How do I get paid salary each month? Is the pay system annual salary or monthly salary?

A

Full time positions are paid based on hourly wages.
In this way, working hours are managed by system automatically and it allows us to pay for the overtime precisely.
Management positions are paid based on annual salary, and the amount which was divided into 12 months will be paid monthly.

What is the percentage of the female employees who return to work after taking maternity and child care leave?

A

It is over 95%. Costco promotes a female friendly workplace.

A

References are required only for the management positions. Except for the management positions, references are not required.

Is there any age limit?

A

There is no age limit. We select candidates based on their work history, experience and potential.

What is the percentage of an annual paid vacation leave?

A

All Costco employees who are employed continuously for six months, and have worked at least 80% of the total scheduled working days, are entitled to receive paid annual vacation leave. As a company, 90% of vacation days are taken.

Is there any retirement plan?

A

We provide our employees with a defined contribution pension plan.
The amount varies, depending on the length of employment.

What is the defined contribution pension plan?

A

A defined contribution (so called Japanese 401k) pension plan is a pension plan which was introduced in 2001 based upon the 401k system in the US.
Employees and company contribute a certain payments every month, and the amount of pension that you receive in the future will change, depending on the investment management.
